Geriatric Care
After a certain age, a person needs round-the-clock medical assistance as infections, and chronic diseases become a better part of everyday life. Heart diseases, cancer, hypertension, dementia have the most extensive impact on the aging population. Are the current healthcare systems ready to manage these conditions and be changed forever?
- Polypharmacy and dosing of medications has been a big challenge in older patients. We spend lot of time discussing and updating their medicines on each visit.
- Much of the older population lives alone. Many are not getting the help that they need and deserve. Many people are silently suffering because of the steep rise of Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease.
- Elderly patients are at increased risks of falling due to an unstable gait for multiple reasons. We are constantly keeping an eye on them and discuss preventative measures with the patient and their families. We take active role in their home safety and environmental assessment.
- Wear and tear processes cause osteoporosis and osteoarthritis and are some of the well-known entities in elderly population. We regularly monitor and treat these issues during each visit.
- Urinary issues, especially incontinence and pressure sores due to being bed-ridden, in some of our geriatric patients is well taken care of at our office.
- We address their depression, deconditioning and various other psychological issues and manage them by counseling and careful use of medicines, if needed.
- We monitor their diet and weight on regular basis and work with their caregivers and families on case-by-case basis and supervise their medicines.
- We make every effort ensure our geriatric population avoid hospitals and address multiple issue on each visit.
